Sariska National Park
Overview
Situated on the Aravali hills and a former hunting preserve of Maharajas of Alwar, Sariska National park/ wild life sanctuary is one of the best tiger reserves in India. Considered as a national park in 1982, the Sariska National park has the distinction of having quite a few tigers and some other interesting flora along with a few historical ruins and monuments that are the reminder of its glorious past. Besides the tigers, some other flora and fauna which are the attractions of this wild life sanctuary - Rhesus Macaque, Striped Hyaena, Nilgai, Ratel, Leopard, Indian Hare, Indian Grey Mongoose, Sambar, Bengal Fox, Jungle Cat, Indian Porcupine, Small Indian Mongoose, Chital, Golden Jackal, Leopard Cat, Northern Palm Squirrel, Wild Boar, Hanuman Langur, Caracal, Four-horned Antelopes and Small Indian Civet. A tourist can explore Sariska that is spread over 800 square kilometers and can come across many flora and fauna on their drive on this route. The authorities of wild life sanctuary have provided various hidden routes and different elevations for viewing wildlife at close quarters.
A number of historic buildings and some religious places of interest can also be seen while exploring the Sariska National Park. The ruins of the Kankwari fort, the 10th century Neelkanth Temple, the Bharthari Temple, the large Siliserh Lake and the hot and cold springs of Taalvriksh are such kinds of excursions which can be explored during the visit at this national park. The topography of Sariska centuary supports scrub-thorn arid forests, dry deciduous forests, rocks and grasses as it is situated on the backdrop of the Aravali Hills. A palace built by the then Maharajas of Alwar that has now been rehabilitated into a hotel is also an option as a heritage hotel.
Located in Alwar district of Rajasthan, the Sariska National park is well connected with railway route and road route. Nearest airport Jaipur is just about 4 hrs drive and a tourist can take a taxi from the Airport. The distance from major destinations to this place is- Delhi - 200 km, Alwar-21 km and Jaipur - 108 km.
