Ranthambhore National Park
Overview
Nestled between Aravalli and Vindhya Range of North-Western Indian state Rajasthan, Ranthambhore National Park is famous for its tigers and is often referred to as the best place to see these royal predators of the wild. Earlier it was a place of hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur and later it was established as a national park in 1980. Spread over an estimated area of 400 sq. kms., the Ranthambhore National Park is bound by river Chambal in the South and river Banas in the North. The tiger is comparatively easier to notice in Ranthambhore than in any other National Parks in India.
The Ranthambhore National Park is most famous for its large tiger population. Besides the major tiger inhabitation, there are around 318 species of birds, both resident and migratory, over 35 species of mammals and reptiles in Ranthambhore National Park. The major creatures that can be seen in Ranthambhore National Park including birds are Tiger, Forest Cat, Leopard, Caracal, Spotted Deer/Chital, Nilgai, Sambar, Wild Boar,Jackal Graylag Goose, Woodpeckers, Indian Gray Hornbills, Common Kingfishers, Bee Eaters, Cuckoos, Parakeets, Asian Palm Swift, Owl and Nightjars. Six man made lakes inside the Ranthambhore National Park provide perfect relief during the extremely hot summer months for the forest inhabitants.
The first Project Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan, the Ranthambhore National Park is counted among India's best national parks to see these majestic predators in the wild. Today this national park has been considered as a very special biosphere as it harbors huge variety of species and some of which are extremely rare and listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red Data Book. The land of Ranthambhore National Park is very close to That Desert and a massive fort, after which the park is named, overlooks the park atop a hill. An additional attraction in this park is a very famous temple dedicated to god Ganesha which is worshipped before beginning any new project or venture as the Vighnaharta (Hurdle demolisher), where a large number of devotees come to see.
